Getting Advice

The MFB Community Safety Directorate aim to achieve a high level of life and property protection while reducing major losses, allaying public anxiety and protecting the environment.

Please read the below information detailing the types of advice and services the MFB provides.


Structural Fire Safety

The Structural Fire Safety Department comprises three sections:

  • Building Codes and Audits
  • Building Inspections and Compliance (formerly Research and Policy)
  • Fire Investigation and Analysis.

These departments perform regulatory functions under the Building Act and the Regulations and Building Code of Australia.

Building Inspections and Compliance

Dangerous Goods

The Dangerous Goods Department provides a comprehensive service for industry and the wider community.

This is achieved through consultation and written advice in accordance with Dangerous Goods Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, relevant Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.
