The MFB Library provides a technical information service for both MFB staff and for use by affiliated Emergency Services and Tertiary Colleges.
It has a continually growing collection of materials obtained from both National and International sources.
The main subjects covered are firefighting, fire technology, fire risk analysis, disaster management, fire investigations, hazardous materials, arson, fire prevention, rescue training, management, fitness and first aid.

Information Resource Materials
- Books, journals, training manuals, videos, films, slides, photographs, overhead transparencies, Australian Standards and National Fire Protection Association codes, annual reports, acts and regulations, newspaper clippings.
- Electronics services - access to on-line searching and CD-ROM's.
- Electronic Monthly library bulletins.
Library Charges
- Reciprocal borrowing is available from Emergency Services and affiliated libraries.
- Interlibrary loan payment required by other libraries.
- Students can photocopy from 10 cents per page but books need to be organised through their own library for inter-library loans.
- Consultants, businesses and other individuals can photocopy from 10 cents per page, book and video loans $10 per item. Quick reference (up to 10 minutes) no charge but major inquiries are $30 per hour (plus costs e.g. on line charges and photocopying, faxing etc.) plus 10% GST.
- A Library Bulletin is published electronically every month. This contains indexing from the latest fire and management journals, details of new publications purchased by the library and a synopsis of new videos acquired. The cost for this is $10 plus 10% GST per issue. It is free for affiliated libraries.
- Books and videos are available on loan only to residents of Australia. Videos are to be used for educational purposes, fire department training or promotion of fire safety awareness. Videos may not be shown where there is an admission fee. There is a copyright warning on each video loaned by the library.
