Legislative and Policy Contexts

There are several federal and commonwealth policy and legislative contexts which have informed the MFB’s response to equity and diversity and which provide the impetus for the development of plans to improve diversity outcomes for the community and the organisation.

The MFB has developed a number of policies that address equal opportunity, anti-discrimination, bullying, and sexual harassment.

These policies apply to all MFB staff and are published on the MFB’s intranet and are communicated to staff through a number of channels.

The policies outline the behaviours that are unlawful in the workplace and the options available to staff to pursue in case of any breach of the policies.

The Diversity Development Framework on the other hand aims to build an MFB environment, culture and competence to support and harness diversity and so mitigate the risks of discrimination and harassment.

It is also a framework that impacts on the MFB’s external role of community engagement and service delivery.
